Carnival Mardi Gras is one of the largest ships that visit the Amber Cove port in Maimon, Puerto Plata. Sailing to ports in the Eastern and Western Caribbean, the ship will visit exotic islands such as Grand Dominican Republic, Cayman, St. Thomas, Nassau, Key West and Mexico among other islands.

The name is taken from the hometown of Carnival Cruise Lines, where the Mardi Gras celebrations take place. The maximum capacity of the ship is 6,500 passengers and 1,745 crew members. The ship is 344 meters long and 42 meters wide, with a weight of 150,000 tons. The boat has 3 decks and large windows. Her sailing speed is 17 knots.

Activities and entertainment for adults
Mardi Gras offers a wide range of onboard entertainment, from spas and gyms to swimming pools and water parks. The shopping arcades on each deck are lined with boutiques and shops. The ship has several rooms for dancing, including a casino located in the aft section of the promenade deck. Mardi Gras also offers numerous bars where guests can enjoy a drink while listening to recorded music or a live band.

Children’s activities and entertainment
Children’s activities include video games on arcade consoles, space adventure camps and story sessions with Mr. Funnel, the cruise line’s director of entertainment. In addition, there is a special area on the pool deck with water games and attractions for children to enjoy while their parents relax on one of the sun decks.

Mardi Gras Restaurants, bars and lounges
At Mardi Gras there are 11 restaurants, all of them with buffet service. Each of them offers a different cuisine and atmosphere, allowing you to choose between formal or informal dining.

The ship has 9 adult-only bars where you can enjoy a drink in a casual setting, including the Funnel Bar, an entertainment bar located at the top of the Grand Staircase, next to Mr. Funnel’s office. One of the funniest things about this bar is that it has live entertainment six nights a week.

Booths at Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras staterooms have a private bathroom, telephone, and television. However, features vary based on the stateroom category you choose: Balcony rooms have a sofa bed, refrigerator, and coffeemaker. Inside cabins below decks do not have a window or balcony door, but are larger than standard rooms and have two lower beds that create a double bed when pushed together.

The rooms with balcony can accommodate up to three occupants, as they contain a superior bed in addition to the aforementioned bunk bed. They also include a small table and chairs for al fresco dining and offer views through sliding glass doors or windows.

Responsible tourism
Carnival Cruises is committed to responsible tourism practices when selecting ports of call for its cruises. They have already achieved a number of goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in selected destinations, provide sustainable energy sources to local communities, and reduce waste by encouraging recycling.

As part of this commitment, passengers are allowed to visit the cultural heritage sites of these destinations, but are also encouraged to help preserve the environment by cleaning up the beaches. In addition, Carnival has recently introduced Fair Trade Certified coffee to its ships, so passengers can enjoy their favorite beverage knowing that farmers have received a fair price for their crops.
