The other side is the not so nice homes and poor families struggling to make a simple living.
Charities are like Angels that give a helping hand to others, specially to those who lack basic support in their everyday lives. Giving is living, this list of charitable institutions need help via donations of personal hygiene items, shoes, food, educational material, toys, books, money, and other items to be distributed in the poorest communities.
Browse their websites and send them an email about the list of needed items before you travel, sometimes it’s toothbrushes, soaps or shoes – very specific to their immediate needs. When possible, we help connect travelers with local transportation to these charities to make it easier to those volunteers and donors that bring love and care to the ones that need it most. Dream Project
The Dream Project is deeply rooted in the community, helping Cabarete children with early and primary education. They have a center that also offers artistic and cultural enrichment. This is one of the most respected charities in the area, very well organized.
Mustard Seed DR
Hogar Immanuel is Mustard Seed`s center for disabled children in the Dominican Republic. These kids can`t go about their daily lives without assistance, provided by the staff at Hogar Immanuel. It is heart breaking to see the disabled kids in need, be sure to donate after calling them for a wish list.
Mariposa Foundation
The Mariposa Foundation is dedicated to helping young girls and women empower themselves through education, so they can become independent and successful in their future. The foundation also provides help with class materials, uniforms and individual tutoring.
Monkey Jungle DR
Monkey Jungle is the top zip lining experience in DR, also an important mission of volunteers that have built a dental and medical clinic to help those without access to these services. Donate to this great effort, visiting the park itself also helps. They also need volunteers to assist in the clinic.
Inspire DR
Inspire DR is an educational effort for young boys to learn English and develop character and community values. This mentoring program teaches them sports, arts, exercise, discipline and a healthier lifestyle to bring them closer to a better future otherwise impossible in these poor communities.
Dogs and Cats of DR
Dogs and Cats of the Dominican Republic is a volunteer effort to help promote proper care and nutrition of pets, and avoid the numerous homeless pets being born on the streets of the DR, with their subsequent poor life and death in accidents or abandonment.
