DRIVING IN PUERTO PLATA

Renting a car in Puerto Plata makes it easier to have a flexible schedule when moving around. The amount of tours, landmarks and activities makes driving a good option if you prefer not to hire a driver. The historic center of Puerto Plata might be a challenge to find parking so be patient, best to find a good spot and walk a few blocks as you will enjoy it and it is pretty safe. Other areas such as the Malecon (ocean drive) offer plenty of parking area across the ocean walk. Driving to Sosua and Cabarete is easy, just take the main highway 5 from West to East. Pay attention to motorcycles and scooters, you might find many Dominicans drive different than most other countries.
