Punta Bergantin, the newest beach resort project with movie studio, marina, golf course, and retirement homes in the best of Puerto Plata. The Dominican Republic Reserve Bank and the DR Ministry of Tourism presented the Punta Bergantín development project at FITUR 2023;
an initiative designed to support national tourism development with the creation of thousands of jobs that will boost the economy of Puerto Plata and the entire region.
Bergantín is a beach with calm and clean waters in the province of Puerto Plata, between Playa Dorada and Sosúa. Few people outside of Puerto Plata knew that Bergantín beach exists, until now. It can be accessed from Montellano, or by kilometer 7 of the Luperón Highway, near Playa Dorada.
Under current conditions, you must go in high-rise vehicles or 4x4s due to the state of the road that leads to this beach, still pristine land. The beauty of its surroundings has captured the attention of President Luis Abinader. It is such that on February 27 he highlighted the construction of a project on that beach in which the actor and businessman Vin Diesel will participate.
Immediately after the presentation of the master plan, the head of state held a private meeting with investors interested in the project, including several private developers from the Dominican Republic, including Álvaro Peña, president of the CODELPA group, as well as representatives of the North American hotel franchise, Planet Hollywood, operated by the Sunwing Travel Group.
Samuel Pereyra, general administrator of Banreservas, explained that Playa Bergantín will have 4,000 rooms, including residential and hotel rooms, as well as an academic campus aimed at promoting education and innovation in the country.

In a meeting that was attended by the vice president, Raquel Peña and foreign investors, executives and owners of hotel chains, Pereyra and the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, offered extensive details about the impact that Punta Bergantín will generate throughout the area. of the city of the Atlantic.
Punta Bergantin Development Phases
The first phase involves the seaside town, hotel development and access roads. It will begin in the course of 2023 with the credit support of Banco de Reservas, whose administrator, Samuel Pereyra, described the project as one of the most important and ambitious.
In the second phase, the golf course and real estate projects will be developed, while the third phase will be for mixed use, residential and commercial.
Pereyra specified that the first stage of the project will begin this year, with the construction of 700 hotel rooms, in an area of 2.76 million square meters. He announced that the Banco de Reservas will evaluate and support, through timely credit solutions, national and foreign investors who are interested in investing in this tourist complex.
“Since 2021 we have been working on this initiative, carrying out the required technical and commercial studies, and thus determine that it is viable to build and commercialize there, and in what proportion to do it so that it is attractive and profitable from the point of view of our businesses, without forget the advances that it will represent for the entire area, both economically and socially,” he said.
The presentation of the tourism initiative was held at the Casino de Madrid, where there were also representatives of the press, bank executives and leaders of the Dominican community in Spain.

In addition to the hotel facilities, a film studio will be built there that will be installed with the international firm One Race Films, a company chaired by the actor Vin Diesel; as well as a modern 18-hole golf course.
This project will also build the first Planet Hollywood Hotel that will operate in the Dominican Republic, with financing from the Banco de Reservas, according to an agreement announced this Thursday at Fitur.
The Master Plan for the development of Punta Bergantín includes the authorization of commercial lots; land for offices, recreational areas, beach clubs and hospitals, among other services.
The Banco de Reservas delegation has deployed a broad operation of activities, contacts and meetings with representatives of the hotel industry and its entire value chain during the Tourism Fair that will conclude on Sunday 22 in the Spanish capital.
History of Bergantin Point
In 2021, the Reservas Group acquired around 9.6 million square meters, in the municipality of Villa Montellano, in Puerto Plata, precisely on the coast of Punta Bergantín, to develop a strategic framework with other government entities, to transform these lands into a urban tourism development area. It is located between Playa Bergantin Beach and Huequito Beach.
