Taste of India is a journey to pure culinary enlightenment, an Indian restaurant considered the best of its kind in the Dominican Republic. Upon visiting we enjoyed the rich décor portraying beautiful Mandalas with rich colors evoking the spicy flavors of its cuisine, and the exotic art that represent their culture.

The staff at taste of India is very attentive, all are locals from Puerto Plata trained for the task at hand, and very professional. The place made me feel I was in a movie set due to the intricate attention to detail.

The menu is 100% what we expected, from the entrées of Crispy Onion Bhajis (our favorites) to the Vegetarian Samosa, Chicken Samosa, Grilled Chicken Tikka, and Fried Eggplant Masala. The variety is more extensive, we just need to visit a few more times to try them all.

From the main courses we tried the Chicken Masala Curry, and Murg Mahkni (Butter Chicken); when coming in groups have someone else order the Korma and Vindaloo too so you can all have a tasting. If you like coconut flavor a lot try the Coconut Chicken Curry.

Honestly we needed the help from the staff in “translating” some of the main courses so we knew exactly what we were ordering. It is better for those who are new at Indian food so you can fully enjoy the experience, specially people who need to know how spicy a dish can be.

The Bar at Taste of India has a good selection of wine for pairing, and the prices are fair enough. Cocktails, cold beer, scotch and other spirits are also readily available with a highly skilled bartender. We truly enjoyed this fabulous Indian restaurant in Puerto Plata and just can’t wait to go back for more.
