Puerto Plata Acapulco Beach is a beautiful stretch of golden sand almost in the middle of the malecon beaches, easily accessed right on this ocean drive avenue. The water is blue/turquoise with many corals and algaes, but plenty of clear, crystal areas to enjoy swimming in low depths.
Puerto Plata Malecon Beach
The shape of the beach is almost like a double bay, as it eroded on both sides; It is surrounded by almond trees on the highway side, offering shaded seating on the top, as the continuous concrete benches of the malecon run its length non stop. We took a tour on Good Friday, and found that this time there were 911 staff, cops and med support for those who ventured into this beach, as the Easter week draws a lot of travelers from everywhere.

A Great, Uncrowded Beach
Acapulco Beach has clean sand, great to set up a tent or umbrella; The sloping wall has a staircase made of PVC to avoid rust, with concrete steps ( we found the steps at the end were eroded, so we had to negotiate the last 3 with a bit of care ). Once you`re in the sand the highway disappears behind the wall and the beach becomes your own paradise.
Those who drive the Puerto Plata malecon know that this beach is mostly deserted, with some locals coming on the weekends. All things considered, this is a beach with no onsite security, as there are no stores, restaurants or vendors there. This is a pristine, solitary area fit for those coming to explore, relax and take photos.
Next door Playa Camacho has a similar type of environment, while the best known Long Beach has it all in terms of restaurants, gift shops, bars, and great Politur presence. If you keep driving or walking East, you`ll see Eleven POP Bar, Big Lee, Carihuela, Cosita Rica, Chiringuito and other super interesting places to meet new friends and enjoy Dominican hospitality.

How to Get There:
When you`re in Puerto Plata, take the malecon highway, the beach is 500 meters past La Sirena when coming from the West, and 1.4 kms when coming from the East (where the malecon begins). There is a sign on the beach side, easy to spot. The Google map below can take you there as well if you are connected to a mobile WiFi. Coming from Sosua just take highway 5 and make a right turn towards the Puerto Plata malecon.
