Cosita Rica Beach Puerto Plata is the heart of Long Beach (the malecon) and one of the best known beaches in town. This area sits right at the center of the ocean drive next to Acapulco beach and has several of the top restaurants and bars such as ElevenPOP, Carihuela, Swank and Cosita Rica restaurant. It is a major landmark beach of Puerto Plata, favored by many tours operators including the local cruise ship ports of Taino Bay and Amber Cove.

Cosita Rica Restaurant Bar

Featuring a beautiful Victorian style architecture, the Cosita Rica Restaurant offers one of the best beach atmospheres in Puerto Plata, hence the name of the beach as this was the first of all bars and restaurants to be established. The menu offers the best of international cuisine, including local seafood, Pasta, American and Dominican dishes. Lounger service is available right by the beach, with great staff and bartender.

La Carihuela Bar & Restaurant

La Carihuela has a class of its own; finely designed with tropical motifs, this beachfront restaurant quickly became a favorite among visitors to this gorgeous beach. The menu has international dishes, including (as expected) great seafood. The bartender is great, and staff very attentive. This is where the beach beds are available, also lots of loungers. A postcard-perfect venue, Carihuela offers a unique beach perspective for photo ops.

Kite Surfing in the Malecon

Cosita Rica has consistent waves and wind to practice kite boarding, and has become the third best beach for this adrenaline-packed water sport. Right next to El Chiringuito there is the Puerto Plata kite surfing teacher that offers lessons, and many independent surfers bring their own gear and launch from this beach (between Swank and Chiringuito).

How To Get There

Take the same route to reach the Puerto Plata Malecon on either end (Hermanas Mirabal coming from Jumbo) then drive straight to the center. A sign on the right side is easy to find, and the restaurants are easy to spot when driving along the malecon. Parking is on the left when going from East to West.
