Sosua Beach is one of the most important beaches of the Puerto Plata region, located in the town with the same name. Its crystal clear waters, location and amenities make it an ideal spot for locals and foreigners to enjoy any day of the week.
Recently on June 26th, 2022 Dominican president Luis Abinader and the beach vendors association announced Sosua beach changes that include 3 new plazas and better reorganization of the services.
How Long is the Beach?
Sosua beach extends for about one Kilometer, from East to West, facing the North Atlantic Ocean. It is rimmed by mature trees that provide shade, where the visitor also finds many bars, restaurants, gift shops, water sports operators and other tourism-related businesses. The beach is shaped like a half moon, forming the Sosua Bay. This is home to many corals that serve as home to colorful tropical fish species.
Sosua Yacht & Catamaran Charters
Sosua bay offers a perfect shelter to anchor yachts and boats, and there are available private charters offering yachts and catamaran tours for morning, afternoon and evening cruises. The charter tours stop at snorkeling locations and sail along the beaches of the area, where guests can jump into the water and feed the colorful reef fish.
What Type of Food is Available at the Beach?
The food menu in this Beach has as much variety as its diverse population from all over the world: there is Canadian, German, Italian, North American, Swiss, Haitian, Jamaican, etc; the list is long. Almost all include seafood, a main staple of beach life.
Places like Mofongo King offer a great selection of the famous plantain-made dish, Mofongo. Going towards the end of the beach, closer to Charamicos we find Montanara, rated by us as the best Italian restaurant here.
What Activities are available?
Because of its privileged location inside Sosua Bay, this beach enjoys calmer, crystal waters where snorkelers and divers have designated areas to enjoy at various depths. Several dive shops offer snorkeling tours, also SUP (Stand Up Paddle boarding), Crystal bottom kayaks, powered snorkel, Banana boats, Sosua yachts tours, Sosua Catamaran Charter for parties, Sosua ATVs and trips outside the beach to go zip lining, dirt buggies and much more.
Dominican Local Art
The main street that leads to the beach is lined with artists shops, where the visitor can see the artists painting, buy art or custom order their own pictures. The list of the local artists is long, among the best we can find Salomon Santos, Joel Rodriguez, Teddy Tejada, Herman`s Atelier, Wellington Santana, Oliver Lapaix, and many more.
Dominican North Coast Marine Life
The marine life here shows some of the most exotic species such as Drum fish, Caribbean reef Squid, Sergeant Major, Angel fish, Blue Tang, Butterfly fish, Sea Horses, Squirrel fish; Also Yellow tail Snapper, Turtles, Dolphins, Parrot fish and on occasion the waters just off the beach display the passage of Humpback whales in their migratory route towards the Puerto Plata Silver Bank marine sanctuary. Sosua Beach – How to Get There:
If you`re already in Sosua just walk from the center of town to the beach heading East to West, either via Highway 5, Pedro Clisante street or Alejo Martinez Street. From Cabarete take the highway in the same direction, and from Puerto Plata it is a West_ East route towards Sosua via Highway 5.
