Puerto Plata Fishing has always been an exciting experience, given its privileged location in the Atlantic Ocean. World-class prize species such as the Black and Blue Marlin are found here, also other species such as:
- Barracuda
- Mahi Mahi (Also called Dorado, Dolphin fish)
- Yellow Fin Tuna
- Sailfish
- Wahoo (called locally Carite)
- Grouper
As well as other pelagic and bottom species. Most tours depart from two locations, Sosua Beach (the bay) and Cofresi (The Ocean World Marina) from 8am-12 or 1-5pm. Although many consider the morning to be the best time for serious fishermen, many a big catch has been hooked during afternoon hours.

Each boat is equipped with pro gear for catching upwards of 1,000 pound Tunas and Marlin, though most large catch in the area are below 400 pounds.
Puerto Plata being in the heart of the Caribbean makes it a good spot for Marlin and other prized species following the North currents for food. Please note that some Marlin species are endangered ( Blue Marlin ) so we encourage catch and release as much as possible. The average fishing tour in Puerto Plata takes about 4 hours and cost from $900.00 for a group of up to 1-6 people. The types of yachts can be Hatteras, Viking, Bertram and other known brands. The average size is about 45′ in length and usually include bedrooms, bathrooms, dinettes and full kitchens.

The type of catch you will be getting depends on the Season, if searching for Marlin expect them in larger numbers during June-October and November-January (Atlantic Blue Marlin), and March-June (White Marlin). Wahoo thrives from October to March, although it is found the rest of the year and is a common catch in the Atlantic.
